Akasa is a company that has focussed on thermal solutions for computers for well over a decade now, including heatsinks and fans, and have recently diversified to computer accessories, and passively cooled cases. As a brand, they do not have the market recognition relative to other companies in the highly competitive CPU cooler and computer fan field and this is possibly also why they have been either mostly ignored by the masses or treated as an underdog. Every 2-3 months I get a request from a reader asking about Akasa fans, and specifically the Viper fans. On paper, they have good specs but we all know by now to not rely on box specs to compare products across different companies. Thanks to Performance PCs, we now get to see how the Viper 140mm fan, aka the AK-FN063, performs.
Let’s take a look at the fan specs from the product page:

Note that we are looking at the square frame version here, and not the 140mm Viper R that has a round frame with different specs. The 140mm square frame Viper is a standard 140 x 140 x 25mm thick fan, and is a PWM fan rated from 600-1600 RPM. As such it is one of the higher speed 140mm fans marketed at the consumer PC DIY industry. The fan uses a fluid bearing with a rated life expectancy (unspecified whether MTBF or L10, or something else entirely) of 50, 000 hours. That’s all there is as far as absolute specs go here for our purpose. The contents tab mentions that the fan comes with 4 rubber mounts but, unlike some of their other products, there is no mention of warranty policy or time and also no mention of power draw/requirements for the fan. As we have seen before, these are two very important aspects for fans from a customer’s point of view and I would like to see this mentioned for all their products.
