As more and more high speed, high performance 140mm fans get to the market, the attention given to the < 1200 RPM fans is growing less. But these are still the more prevalent in the retail market and, paired with a good radiator, can be a well performing combination for cooling at low noise levels. Finding a PWM version of such fans has not been easy, and so I am happy to see that Phobya has one in their arsenal. Thanks then to Pascal and Hank for sending a sample for analysis.

Let’s begin by taking a look at the specs courtesy the product page:

We should note right away that Phobya is Aquatuning’s house brand, and hence the product page accordingly. This is a standard 140mm fan of 25mm thickness, relatively low on power at 1.8 W which includes start up boost and has an all black color scheme promised. As with all their fans, they provide a voltage range for PWM fans as well which really is a last resort if you have no PWM controllers. No mention on warranty (standard 1 year here) or bearing type, but the 100,000 hour MTBF (At 25 ºC) is indicative of a long life and no sleeve bearing. The rated speed range is wrong here as we can see that the max rated speed itself is 1100 RPM. The actual rated speed range is 600-1100 RPM, and hopefully this is corrected soon. Now let’s take a look at the fan on the next page.
