Aerocool is one of those underdog companies that you think about when browsing for products on a retailer store and then proceed to go ahead and buy the popular choice components anyway because your friend did so. I know I have been guilty of this myself. I had no idea that Aerocool is a US based company that has been around since 2002! I had/still have some of their “Shark” 120mm fans which were decent for the money but nothing necessarily that made it stand out. So when they announced their DS series of fans in late 2013 and pictures came about of the fans since, I was really excited to see if the fans performed as well as they looked. So now thanks to Hank from Performance PCs, we can now find out. Note that this particular sample is the Blue variant.
Let’s begin by taking a look at the specs courtesy the product page:
Ah so this is a fan with a fluid bearing (and the product page does a good job talking about it). The low starting voltage is good, and possibly points towards low RPM operation. That rated max current draw is not too bad either once you consider that this includes the LEDs. A good set of accessories rounds up the specs list. So far so good, let’s now take a look at the fan on the next page.
